3D Mammography (3D UltimateMamm®)

3D mammography — digital breast tomosynthesis — is a low-cost exam providing superior imaging for women with dense breast tissue or other risk factors. RMI was the first to offer it in Genesee County, and we bring it to Metro Detroit as well. We call our unique service the 3D UltimateMamm®.

How 3D mammography works

Standard mammograms create two-dimensional, flat images. 3D mammography captures a semi-circular image that can be viewed from many angles, making it significantly easier for our specialized radiologists to see problems within the breast — especially if you have dense breast tissue, where overlapping tissue can hide small cancers on flat images.

The 3D UltimateMamm® gives you complete information for taking control of your breast health. Every screening includes:

• Your breast density type — required disclosure under Michigan law
• A Tyrer-Cuzick lifetime cancer risk assessment
• Evaluation of hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC) risk based on your family history
• A recommendation on whether BRCA gene testing or breast MRI is appropriate for you
